(Q) Hello, could you tell me if you have a dislocated tailbone how a Chiropractor would pop it back in place?
(A) Thank you for your question. To understand better what you mean by a dislocated tailbone I would need a more detailed history on your condition. That not withstanding I will do my best to answer your question.
The tailbone is made up of two bones called the sacrum and the coccyx. To diagnose a subluxation or dislocation as you said in this area a thorough history and exam including an x-ray would be needed. The x-ray would help to rule out the presence of any fractures, look for misalignment or any other abnormality. If a fracture was present that would need to heal before any treatment or adjustments could be performed to the area. Typically injuries to this area results from a sprain/strain type injury which can produce misalignment, fixation or subluxation to the sacrum or coccyx. Much can be done for this type of problem. The degree and position of the subluxation or misalignment would need to be determined by the doctor from the exam and x-ray of the area. Once it can be determined where the problem is a gentle adjustment can be made to the tailbone or wherever else the origin of the complaint can be traced to.
I hope that helps answer your questions or concerns. If you would like to discuss this matter further, feel free to contact me by email or by phone.
